Why PFAS?

PFAS or "Forever Chemicals" are a group of synthetic compounds that are widely used in many commercial products we use in our daily lives. There are thousands of PFAS compounds, some of them have been properly studied and proven to be highly toxic, such as PFOA and PFOS. These were then replaced by other compounds like GenX, which are said to be less bioaccumulative compared to PFOA and PFOS. However, recent studies have shown they are still toxic and have been found in water and air.

Since these chemicals have a very strong carbon-fluorine bond, they are extremely hard to naturally break down. This persistence and toxicity make PFAS a serious environmental and health hazard, which is why I have chosen to research and share about them.
